Dr. O'Malley was educated at St. Patrick’s College, Armagh and Trinity College, Dublin qualifying with Medicine BA, MB, BCh, BAO in 1990. He gained hisDiploma in Clinical Supervision from Liverpool John Moores University in 2007, qualified as an EMDR Consultant in 2008 and was elected to Fellowship of Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2011.

He has been employed since 2004 as a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with the 5 Boroughs Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. In 2002 he commenced preparing reports for the Courts on matters related to fitness to plead and diagnosis of disorders in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry.

He is also an expert in all aspect of diagnosis and treatment of psychological trauma in children adolescents and adults. He has presented his clinical work in this area both nationally and internationally and receives out of area referrals as a result of this expertise.

He is presently engaged in research and development of a dynamic model of treatment:
Bilateral Affective Reprocessing Therapy (BART).
